     Additional Learning Needs (ALN)

    The whole team at Penderyn Primary School is committed to providing a welcoming and stimulating environment to support and develop the learning all children. Our school is staffed by a team of qualified teachers and teaching assistants who provide a broad and balanced curriculum that allows children to develop, learn and grow. The children's wellbeing and learning are the centre of everything that we do here in Penderyn.

    Our named ALNCO (Additional Learning Needs Coordinator) is Mrs C Davies.

    The Changes

    At Penderyn we follow the Additional Learning Needs Act. The  objective is a fair system for all leaners with ALN, putting the learner at the heart of everything that happens.

    The ALNCO and staff will be responsible for carrying out any changes, including the induction of Individual Development Plant(IDP).  We have revised our ALN register and the criteria of the children that have an IDP. All other children will receive Universal Provision.

    All areas of school life are inclusive and tailored to the children providing challenge, support, and encouragement. All of our class teacher’s monitor the individual progress of all children in their class to make sure that the teaching and learning provided caters for the needs of all. We work in a pupil-centred approach involving children, families and school. We identify where there may be a need for targeted universal provision to support the progress of these pupils.

    Universal Provision within our school:

    • Effective differentiation
    • Language Provision
    • Numeracy Provision
    • PCP
    • One Page Profile

    We have a duty to provide appropriate and effective ALN provision to children that need it.

    Children have an Additional Learning Need if they;

    • Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age
    • Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for the children of the same age
